Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second year special education teacher, in a Title I school located in Bakersfield, CA. My students are part of a social emotional transition program where their needs go far beyond the classroom walls. My students love to work hard and they love to explore and learn. I am excited to see my students in-person and be able to support them with as many resources as possible this year.

My Project

School is essential in ensuring students learn the educational skills and people skills to be successful in life. Working in a social-emotional transition program, my student population struggle with peer interaction and motivation. Teachers nowadays are having to compete with technology and video games to keep students' interests, especially those who do not care much about school.

The SET program puts the accountability back on the students where students could earn positive free time for displaying positive behavior and academic growth.

I believe having a switch would motivate students to show up to school, work hard, display appropriate behaviors, and earn a new Fun Friday activity where they can earn time on a game with their peers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
