Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten builds the strong base of learning that my students will need to succeed throughout school and life. This year, I can't wait to share my classroom with a group of energetic and sweet kindergartners! Having seen most of these children get their first taste of school in Pre-k last year, I can't wait to see how much they grow this year.
My students are eager to learn, curious about the world around them, and absorbing so much of the information from their environment.
I want to ensure that my classroom creates a passion for learning and am eager to instill a love of READING in them.
Our school's mission statement is to provide a positive, safe, and secure environment that will empower my students to learn while building self-esteem. A highly organized classroom that fosters a love of books is my goal this year. Please help me to reach my goal!
My Project
In order to develop reading and writing skills at this young age, the most important thing we can do as teachers is to EXPOSE our children to as much literature as possible.
These donated items will be used to set up a welcoming and organized classroom library that entices young minds to reach for a book.
Part of my plan for organization will be to have the books sorted by reading level and genre. This is where the book bins come in. I chose those specific bins so that the titles are still visible and the books are easy to access for my little ones! In addition, I want students to be independent and begin to learn how to choose a book that is right for them. Having the books organized and labeled in my classroom library will help them start to develop those skills.
The whiteboard cubes will be used for cooperative learning activities (which I love)! Sight words will be written on these and students will "hunt" for these words in a book. Once the word is found, students will roll and the hunt will continue! I'm so excited to try activities like this! Whisper phones will be used as more of an independent reading activity.
My number one academic goal is to foster a love of reading in my students. I read so much as a child myself and it really made the later years in school (and even college) much more manageable. Reading is such an important skill and kindergarten is really where it all begins. Please help me create a stimulating classroom environment so that these kindergartners leave my classroom at the end of the year with a love for school and a love for reading!
