Classroom Improvement and Project Supplies for All-Girls STEM School

My students need classroom supplies such as paint and notebooks and all the little things that keep a classroom running!

My Students

We are a public, all-girls, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) middle and high school in Los Angeles, California. We opened in 2016 with grades 6 and 9, and grow a grade per year to eventually become a full SPAN (grades 6-12) school by the 2019-20 school year.

Did you know that girls within Los Angeles Unified School District perform at the same level or above their male peers in math and science while in elementary school?

And yet, their scores on standardized tests in math and science decline as they progress through middle and high school. Not only that, as students move through school, fewer girls take STEM classes than boys.

Our school is here to change that and our girls need your help! We welcome all girls within the school district who are committed to a highly rigorous, college preparatory curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

My Project

This project requests so many little things that we seem to constantly be running out of in the classroom! This includes duct tape and masking tape for science projects, wipes to help keep the classroom clean, organization supplies, soap, batteries, granola bars for girls that are hungry, and more. I want to make sure that my students have everything they could need when they enter my classroom and this DonorsChoose project helps me do that.

Unfortunately, my classroom doesn't have any natural sunlight entering the room, but the supplies in this project will help improve this situation!

I have four large windows, but they only show an old storage room. My plan is to have some of my artistic students help paint murals that look like windows to the outside to brighten up the room. Hopefully this will make the room look more welcoming! The paint will also help us for an integrated project we are working on in which the girls are going to build models of their organ system. They will use the paint to help make their projects look complete. Other things in this project that will help with these projects is the paper cutter, tape, and organization supplies for them to store materials.
