My students are taking AP Biology as 9th graders which is absolutely incredible! Most schools do not offer this course until junior year. They are very excited about this course and work hard to show mastery in Biology. In addition to content comprehension, the girls need to demonstrate mastery in the lab setting in order to succeed in this class, pass the AP test, and be prepared to pursue a college education in the science field. The College Board has several recommended labs that I would like to be able to complete throughout the school year to elaborate upon main ideas. However, these labs require a large variety and quantity of materials and equipment. This project will provide the class with kits that contain all the materials to complete a two types of enzyme labs. The kits have enough materials for all student lab groups to participate in individual experiments. The labs focus on several topics of AP biology that are important for students to fully comprehend. This includes enzymes, DNA, and how living systems store, retrieve, transmit and respond to information. The kits, Bunsen burners, flints and tubing will make a huge impact on the students because it will model what they are learning content wise in the lab. Thank you so much for considering my AP Biology students and for helping me to bring more hands-on science into the classroom.
