My Students

Do you remember what it was like to have a classroom pet as a student? Most of my students have not had the opportunity to have pets of their own and if so it was a dog or a cat. I want to expand their knowledge of animals and their habitats by exposing them to anoles, newts, tree frogs, crabs & fish.

I teach in a Title I school which means that the majority of my students come from single parent low income homes.

My school is a 93% free or reduced lunch school and therefore much of the materials for my classroom come from my own pocket. My students are first graders that range in capabilities from developmentally delayed to Advanced Learners performing above grade level.

My Project

My students desperately need hands on inquiry based lessons. These materials will provide a launching point for many lessons on animals, habitats, writing journals, life cycle studies, and character development in the area of responsibility and what it takes to properly care for animals. Any help will be greatly appreciated by myself and my students!

Hopefully this project will inspire students to be life long learners and their love of animals and the environment by providing a hands on approach to teaching the Science Standards that address the needs, habitats and life cycles of animals.
