My Students

Most of my students have never had the opportunity to access a woodworking shop. My goal is to help as many students in my community as possible by training them to use carpentry tools safely and appropriately. I also want my students to learn about rewarding career opportunities in the construction industry.

My students are especially great at utilizing scrap material.

We use everything from old pallets to construction scraps to build custom furniture. In four years I have not charged a single shop fee.

My Project

I want to teach my students traditional woodworking skills. I am worried these skills are being forgotten as classic hand tools continue to be replaced by powered saws.

The field of carpentry and construction is constantly moving away from fine custom woodworking in exchange for faster, reproducible, automation processes.

I would like to build projects with my students that rely on simple traditional tools for making one of kind woodworking projects. I want my students to use these tools to focus on precision and customization. I feel that many students will appreciate the delicate work carpenters and woodworkers have done to make simple custom projects, such as dovetail joinery and spoons.
