Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is mostly students that come from a socio-economically disadvantaged home, foster, homeless, and/or immigrants. Though we receive Title I funding, there are many items that the teachers need to purchase themselves.

My students have desire to be better than their background, wanting to do better than their parents and where they came from.

They want to do well, but it is difficult with lack of supplies and funding. My students are my world, and I just want what is best for them. It is hard for me to set high expectations for them when they don't have the means to meet those expectations.

My goal is to obtain more books for a classroom library. Many of the books we have are not relevant to their lives and are outdated. I want to update my library to have books the students can connect with.

My Project

I teach students who struggle with reading. Many of them say they hate reading, but I know they just haven’t found their type yet.

Many of the books in my school and classroom are outdated.

Many of the books are irrelevant. Many of the students cannot connect with the books.

By updating the class library, students will find books that they can connect with. They will see books that represent them.

Every student deserves to find a book to enjoy, and this project will help that happen. Help me show my students how to love reading.
