This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fourth graders will be taking the State Test on computers this year. This includes typing paragraph responses, as well as multi-paragraph essays. My students spend one to two hours a week on my outdated classroom computers. This is not enough time to adequately prepare them for their future.
My students face more challenges than the average 4th grader.
While many students get to go home and spend hours playing on the computer and completing homework online, my students are scrambling to find a sharpened pencil to complete their homework. My students come from extremely low-income households where there simply is not enough money to have a working computer with internet. This is why it is imperative that my students have the opportunity to use new chromebooks in the classroom to learn and enhance their computing skills from the basics of keyboarding to more advanced computer coding skills.
My Project
Adding chromebooks and headphones to my classroom could completely change the way my students learn. My school uses a lot of computer based education programs such as xtramath, frontrow, SpellingCity and Lexia. These programs allow students to learn at their own pace and differentiate instruction. My students truly love these programs and they have been proven to help them learn. In addition to the computer programs, my students will use the chromebooks to do research for their many science and social studies projects. Students will also use the chromebooks to collaborate and publish their writing assignments using google docs.
Having chromebooks in the classroom, will help transform our class routines and assignments.
With a chromebook, students can utilize all the google apps for education with ease. Students can create slideshow presentations, spreadsheets and documents with graphics. Students can even collaborate on these projects through the share features. My students will learn to work together while gaining computer skills that will have a lasting impact on their future.
