Hello, and thank you for taking the time to check out my project! I am a 3rd grade math & science teacher in Baltimore, MD. I am entering my 5th year of teaching, and I teach 2 classes of about 25 students each. My students are bright, hardworking, and innovative scholars who are enthusiastic about learning every single day.
My students deserve the entire world, and I will fight tooth and nail to be able to provide them with as many resources as I can.
Being classified as a Title 1, low-income school, means that a lot of people have preconceived notions about my students’ academic levels and motivation. The fact of the matter is, my students are just as brilliant as any other students across this country. However, with a significant lack of resources in the classroom, we don’t get the chance to fully showcase our abilities due to a daunting technology gap. Even facing these challenges, my students are consistently reaching new heights and outperforming the district in all standards-based assessments. My students are on their way to becoming well-equipped 21st century learners, and I appreciate any help in trying to get them there.
Increasing the technology available will have profound qualitative and quantitative impacts on my students’ classroom experience. I am hoping to fund these 3 laptops, in addition to buying 2 laptops on my own, so that we can have laptops as a daily math center in our classroom.
Laptops in the classroom open a world of possibilities for instructional implementation.
Students would be able to work through differentiated online modules, practice for state assessments, research various topics, get practice with typing their answers to our daily word problems, the list goes on and on. With daily access to laptops in the classroom, students will be able to get onto sites aimed at increasing math fluency, deepening understanding, and practicing test taking skills. The benefits of having increased access to technology in the classroom are innumerable and will have a lasting influence beyond their time in 3rd grade.
