Chromebooks for Classroom Use

Help me give my students Chromebooks and a color printer so that they can learn how to learn at home in case Covid closes our doors again, and so we can have access to color copies for projects.

My Students

My fourth-grade students love to learn. They love science, math, reading, art, PE, and computers. At our school we try to emphasize collaborative thinking, creativity, cooperation, critical thinking, communication and citizenship.I have 24 students who all come from different socioeconomic backgrounds in our small town of Lindon, Utah. Several students come from homes where they don't speak English at all. They all appreciate being able to come to school to learn rather than trying to learn at home.

We use computers in our classroom almost every day.

We use them to access great programs like iReady, Lexia, and Mystery Science. The fourth-grade teachers at our school all collaborate in order to make online projects that incorporate as many subjects and standards together to help our students understand that all of the subjects we learn about in school are interwoven together in real life.

It has been difficult for many of my students to use technology at home. They have all been affected by Covid-19 and most of them are behind in every subject area. This doesn't stop them from being curious and excited to learn about the world around them and learn as much as they can.

My Project

Chromebooks are essential in our classroom so that my students can learn how to use a computer before they need to stay home because of Covid-19 again. They can access iReady and Lexia, which are great online programs that help students learn at their own pace. We also do several projects throughout the year that incorporate almost every subject area, so that students come to understand that in life we don't just do one subject at a time.

I have found that some parents are unable to help their students at home with technology, so it is important for the students to learn this skill before they are required to stay home either because of quarantine or school closures.

A color printer would also help my classroom as we would be able to print things out for our multi-subject projects immediately, and not have to wait to have copies made. Color copies also make pictures easier to see and seem more real-to-life than the black and white copies we get through our school's copy center.
