Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We want to initiate a perfect attendance incentive for our kiddos that will encourage them to show up and be ready to learn! The way it works is super simple and highly visual, which is perfect for our English language learners. Each homeroom gets a Mr. Potato Head. Every single day that the whole class shows up, they win a new piece—like eyes, a hat, or a mustache—to add to their potato. Once their "Present Potato" is fully built, the class alerts the front office and throws a "Chip Chip Hooray!" party, complete with chips and a surprise visit from the principal to read a book! It turns attendance into a fun game where kids cheer each other on to cross the finish line together.

Our school is filled with amazing, hardworking kids who are eager to learn, but many of them face big uphill battles every day.

Most of our students come from low-income homes, and a large number are learning English as a second language. Dealing with these challenges means they often fall behind academically, which is why just getting them into the classroom every day is our number one priority. To turn attendance from a chore into something joyful, we are launching "Chip Chip Hooray!"—a fun program designed to make every single student feel excited about showing up.

Your support will help us buy the Mr. Potato Head kits, as well as the chip rewards for their celebration. For kids navigating tough situations at home, having a visual, hands-on goal makes them feel like an indispensable part of a team. By funding this project, you are helping us create a school environment where every student knows they are missed when they are gone, giving them the extra spark they need to walk through our doors each morning.
