My Project

The goal for this project is to help me fund a classroom that my students feel safe, loved, and confident in. As a first year teacher, I know that there is so much that my students will teach me while I am in the process of teaching them. My project is a carefully crafted list of items that will help my students be the best versions of themselves while in my care.

I started my list with a few books.

Some of the books include “A Bad Case of Stripes” and “The Day the Crayons Quit”. I plan on using these books (especially the books about crayons) to explain how supplies work. That is an essential part of the first few weeks of kindergarten. The students are learning how to use the materials that they may not have used before.

Next, I have different stem toys for my students to use. They will be used when we have free time. I prefer using actual toys to help students build their gross motor skills and to promote collaboration and socio emotional connection between them as they work with the toys. The STEM toys will also be used as early finishers when we don’t have enough time to move on to a new assignment, but there’s enough time for students to get bored (which we absolutely don’t want!)

I included a few extra cleaning supplies because you can never have enough! I want my students to have a clean space to come to.

Finally, I included some paper and writing materials that will be used periodically in the room. Including whiteboards, and anchor chart paper, which is a crucial piece of teaching lower elementary.
