My Project

The students at my school love to read! My school's first, second, and third grade students are some of the media center's most frequent visitors. Chapter books play an important role in helping new readers make the transition from reading picture books to reading novels, so it is important to have a selection of diverse, high-interest chapter books to capture the attention of every reader. When students finish a book, they will often visit the media center and ask if there are more books in the series so they can continue to read about their favorite characters. This is especially the case for our first and second grade readers and our striving readers who are just beginning their journey as readers.

This project will provide our readers with a variety of new chapter books in their favorite book series that will allow our primary grade readers to practice and build their decoding, reading fluency and comprehension skills while they grow their love of reading.

Reading about familiar characters helps these new readers to build their understanding of plot structure and to grow their confidence as readers so that they want to come back for more. I know that adding these books to our school's collection will have students lining up at the media center circulation desk so they can take them out to read. Thank you for helping us to grow our community of readers!
