Charging Into Technology!

My students need a Chromebook cart to safely store our newly acquired Chomebooks.

My Students

I teach fifth grade at a wonderfully diverse elementary school in Denver, CO. Approximately 1/3 of my students are second language learners and over 40% of them receive free or reduced lunch. My classroom community is made up of students who honor each other's diverse backgrounds and we enjoy sharing and learning about each other's unique cultures. While we celebrate our differences on a regular basis, we understand that we have so much in common as well!

My fifth grade student's curiosity and sense of wonder fuel our units of study and are the vehicle for our learning.

They are exuberant about learning and love coming to school to see what we will be learning about next in our inquiry based classroom. It is a joy to work with them as they become authors, storytellers, mathematicians, scientists and more!

My Project

21st century learning is here and is more exciting than ever! There are so many engaging ways to utilize technology both as a means to learn and as a vehicle to showcase learning. It is amazing to see how technologically savvy students can navigate difficult tasks such as researching topics and exploring different perspectives and sources online to broaden their understanding and challenge their thinking. Technology can help differentiate both content and comprehensibility to ensure that all students meet rigorous learning outcomes. It also brings a sense of joy and wonder as students use videos and images to enhance their final products for our units of study.

Fortunately, my classroom nearly has enough Chromebooks for each student, however, we don't have a charging station for them.

Instead we have used boxes, dish racks and other DIY methods to store and charge our Chromebooks. Sadly, our best efforts have fallen short as cords easily become tangled and unplugged and it is very difficult to efficiently house them. A Chromebook cart will definitely help maximize teaching and learning time. It will allow students to care for our hard earned technology more independently and I can focus on teaching and learning, not storing and untangling. Helping to provide a home for our Chromebooks will truly reduce damage to the Chromebooks themselves and make it easier for everyone to use and manage these valuable tools!
