Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students come from a high-poverty, low-income rural community with diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cultural experiences and family dynamics. On any given day, some of them enter my classroom with individual burdens that can make learning a challenge. I believe it is vital for these students to have equitable access to today's classroom technology.

Given the rural community in which my students live, educational experiences and access to technology are both limited outside of school.

Built in the 1950's, our classroom has only TWO electrical outlets. Because every student is assigned both a laptop and a tablet, adequate charging in currently unavailable. Nothing is more frustrating (for my students and myself) than preparing for only to discover that some devices charged and ready to go.

As a veteran teacher, I strive to incorporate technology, hands-on activities and virtual experiences throughout the day and across the curriculum. With this funding, I be able to provide dependable opportunities for my young students to learn and grow with the electronic devices we already have in the classroom. I truly believe computer literacy it is crucial for their academic success and future employment.

My Project

With this funding, my students will have a safe, organized and dependable charging areas for all electronic devices currently in the classroom. The charging cart and surge protectors will help us easily identify, readily use and properly care for our electronics. These devices help me provide individualized learning with immediate feedback for ALL of my students. By the way, I added an electric pencil sharpener because ours just quit and with this funding, we can have a dedicated plug-in for a new sharpener. Thank you for helping my young learners stay Charged Up for Learning!
