Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach algebra to approximately 200 9th grade students. Many of my students are facing many challenges, ranging from home life, attendace, conduct, and academics. Our school has made it a goal this year to raise the percentage of 9th grade students to pass algebra on their first try and I am trying to get creative and do everything in my power to make this happen.

I believer a friendly class competition can provide the right amount of motivation and positive peer pressure to get maximum results for the most amount of students.

I want to propose a class party to the class with the highest scores and passing rates at the end of the quarter. I will keep a leaderboard visible so that classes know where they stand. I believe this will not only encourage individual students to work harder, but may also increase participation and collaboration. I think peers may be more inclined to help each other and offer their support. This will also improve relationships and class culture.

Winners of this challenge will be rewarded with a class party. I think students will enjoy the competitive aspect of this challenge and will motivate each other to reach their goals. I will purchase food from the deli department and other grocery items needed to make this celebration possible. Thank you for your consideration.
