When my students first saw the new materials, there was a collective sense of relief and genuine appreciation. They realized that their personal needs were being seen and respected. One student even whispered, \"Oh my gosh, yes, thank you, I needed this.\" It was a powerful moment that reinforced how much dignity and self-worth are tied to having access to the basics.\r\n\r\nThe \"Care Cabinet\" is already in full swing and working exactly as intended—discreetly and effectively. Just last week, a student came in after a particularly long commute, looking stressed and self-conscious. After a quick, private trip to the cabinet for some deodorant wipes and a travel toothbrush, they returned to their desk with their head held high, ready to dive into our group discussion. Because they didn't have to worry about how they looked or smelled, they were able to focus entirely on the lesson rather than on their own discomfort. It's a small resource that makes a massive difference in their social interactions and willingness to participate.\r\n\r\nStudents know that they have access to personal care supplies in our room. They grab what they need during class and even come by with friends at times to share their supplies with others in need. By normalizing access to these items, we are building a supportive environment where students feel empowered to take care of themselves without shame. This school year has been challenging, especially as the library department faces disproportionate staff cuts and we anticipate having little to no budget for book purchases next year. Even though my own job will be cut after this school year concludes, I feel proud that I was able to curate a selection of graphic novels that speak to both the interests of my students and the educational goals of our classroom teachers.\r\nAs more teachers return to independent reading (or SSR, as many of us may remember), some students have been reluctant to open ordinary novels. The graphic novels from this fundraiser have offered a unique alternative to that traditional reading experience. When students look a little lost browsing the library shelves, I have been able to suggest some of these books, and their stylish illustrations and diverse characters have made the choice a little easier. Ghost Roast, in particular, has been quite a hit with my library regulars and newcomers! Hello Sunshine has helped fill a noticeable hole in our horror offerings, and it has been an exciting escape for my hungriest comic readers. Wash Day Diaries is in the approval process with our librarians, but it prompted positive discussion and should be on our shelf soon—I hope it will help my black girls ease into the graphic novel experience and into healthy young adult friendships and relationships.\r\nI am thankful that more and more teachers on my campus recognize that reading can come in different forms, and your donations have helped my library showcase the valuable stories that can be found within graphic novels.","fullyFundedDate":1762101304915,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-for-critical-thinking/9850067/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels for Critical Thinking","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Houston","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10325483"},{"teacherId":8145547,"projectId":9923872,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting this project. I find that students have an easier time following the guided notes that includes all the different diagrams they will need. Also it gives me the freedom to create and organize the notes and the best way that I believe my students would learn from. Teaching geometry is my passion and I know it is due to all the graphic organizers, interactive notes, and visual I am able to include in the notebook with the help of your materials. Rather than loud excitement, the students showed their appreciation in a more \"teenager\" way—small grins, a few nods of approval, and several quiet \"thank yous\" as they unpacked the materials. I noticed several students sitting up a bit straighter as they realized these weren't just standard folders, but professional-grade tools designed to help them stay on track. There was a sense of pride as they began the process of labeling their sections for the A-G requirements.\r\n\r\nWe are currently putting the binders to work daily during our Student Success Hour. As mentioned, student desks are crowded with Chromebooks and notebooks, and usually, this leads to a lot of frustration and papers falling on the floor. However, because these binders flip all the way around, students are able to keep everything accessible in a tiny footprint on their desks. Seeing them navigate their workspace so efficiently—without the usual clutter-induced stress—showed me that these binders are doing exactly what we hoped: removing a physical barrier to their concentration.\r\n\r\nThese binders have become the daily \"home base\" for my students' academic lives. Each one is a complete toolkit, housing their writing utensils, A-G tracking sheets, current classwork, and long-term projects all in one place. We've also added a gratitude journal to the front section, which has become a grounding part of our daily routine—giving students a quiet space to reflect before diving into their lessons. By consolidating all these resources, we are moving past the daily stress of \"where is my work?\" and into a space where students can focus on mastery. Thank you for providing the structure that allows them to walk into class every day feeling organized, prepared, and ready to work toward their futures.","fullyFundedDate":1757104272075,"projectUrl":"project/organizing-for-excellence-equipping-stu/9606737/","projectTitle":"Organizing for Excellence: Equipping Students for A-G Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carroll","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7494352_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633468560632","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/denina"},{"teacherId":7494352,"projectId":9095773,"letterContent":"The moment the boxes arrived, the atmosphere in our classroom shifted from \"searching\" to \"doing.\" When the students first saw the 5-in-1 pens and mechanical pencils, their faces lit up—it is amazing what a cute, functional writing utensil does for students' conduct. The immediate favorite, however, was the 3-ring pouches. There was a genuine sense of pride as students spent the first ten minutes of class carefully organizing their new \"survival kits.\" One student remarked, \"Mrs. clock how organized I am,\" which perfectly captures the sense of agency these basic supplies provide.\r\n\r\nWe recently put these tools to the test during a close-reading and annotation of the poem \"The Rose That Grew From Concrete,\" by Tupac Shakur. I watched a student who usually hesitates to write anything down—for fear of making a permanent mistake—boldly use a 5-in-1 pen to color-code different themes in a complex text. When they hit a snag, instead of crumpling the paper in frustration, they reached for the correction tape with a smile. It was a perfect \"culture of error\" moment; the white-out didn't just hide a mistake, it gave them the resilience to keep going. Seeing a classroom full of students focused on their work, rather than distracted by a broken pencil or a missing highlighter, has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThese supplies are a daily staple in my class. Students do not need to rummage through their backpacks looking for supplies. They are always prepared for class, because the writing utensils live in their binders that they leave in a cabinet in our classroom. Because you helped us create these writing supply pouches, my students are no longer worried about where their pens have gone; instead, they are focused on where their ideas are taking them. Thank you for proving that the pen truly is mightier than the sword!","fullyFundedDate":1746619109486,"projectUrl":"project/pencils-and-white-out-and-pens-oh-my/9095773/","projectTitle":"Pencils, and White Out, and Pens; Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carroll","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7494352_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633468560632","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/denina"},{"teacherId":8145547,"projectId":9891303,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting this project.
