My Students
My students come from a multitude of different backgrounds. We are in a very low income area. Many students do not have any support at home and are being raised by single parents or by grandparents. Some of the students go home to an empty house and empty refrigerator. We have many foster children, especially since we are across the street from a shelter.
First grade involves hard work and striving to make multiple gains.
High functioning special education students are mainstreamed into regular education classes.
My Project
In my classroom, my students have no comfortable place to do independent reading or research with their groups. The only places are at their desks, which they are in mostly throughout the day and a carpet that has the hard concrete floor underneath.
I would like for my students to be able to stretch out and sit in a comfy place while engaging in a good book.
Having these chairs and couch in this requested Parlor Set will get them out of those hard desk chairs that can be uncomfortable and allow them to associate reading with good vibes. This will instill a love of reading which definitely helps them in the future.
