Chair Bands to Channel Middle School Energy

My Students

My students come from a rural Utah town. Our moderate poverty school has many students who are receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Despite their circumstances, my students are hardworking, dedicated, and eager to learn. They deserve the same experiences, equipment, and tools, including technology, that other more affluent middle schools offer.

My students need tools to help them collaborate and rebuild relationships after coronavirus isolated them in their homes for so long.

My students and I are grateful for any materials donated to our classroom that can enhance the learning experience. School is a great place to learn and have fun!

My Project

In 7th grade, students have a lot of energy. Being able to channel this energy rather than squash it is a challenge. I have heard that other teachers have really liked using these chair bands to give students a way to use their nervous energy in a way that does not disrupt the classroom. Since covid, it seems like more students than ever before are anxious about school and life generally. I strive to make my classroom a welcoming place for students. These bands will help students know that it's okay to be wiggly if it does not interfere with learning.
