My Project

I teach at an innovative and award-winning, K-12th, dual-language, public charter school in Delaware with a diverse school student population. Fifty percent of our students are minorities and low-income. All of our students study the Greek language and global studies. Our Title I school is located on the outskirts of Wilmington. I truly love working at a diverse school with a focus on global citizenship! Next year, I am adding two new courses titled "Principles of Plant Science" and "Future of Food." Principles of Plant Science provides a foundation of plant science knowledge and skills. Students will experience various plant science concepts through exciting “hands-on” activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting. Students will learn how to apply scientific knowledge and skills to use plants effectively for agronomic, forestry, and horticultural industries. Students will discover the value of plant production and its impact on the individual, the local, and the global economy. Students will work on major projects and problems like those that plant science specialists, such as horticulturalists, agronomists, greenhouse and nursery managers, and plant research specialists, face in their respective careers. In Future of Food, students will investigate the future of food systems including changes in production, transportation, processing, and consumption of food. It will focus on upcoming challenges and opportunities in the world of food and agriculture and the role of economics, policy, technology, and climate impact. Growing and changing consumer demand, supply chain disruptions, modifications in farming practices and more will shape the future of food.

An advocate of play in the classroom, I am requesting 4 copies of the game called "Cellulose." This game will help students learn photosynthesis in our introductory unit.

Any support is greatly appreciated.
