Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth-grade students attend an excellent, inner-city school where every student qualifies for a free lunch. Although it is a high-poverty school, each student strives to succeed. Parents and teachers are dedicated to students' success by making sure our school is a warm, safe place for learning.

Our school motto is, "We're getting ready for college!" and my fourth graders are doing just that!

They are hardworking, wonderful kids, and I am doing my best to get them ready for the future.

My Project

Lunar New Year 2022 is fast approaching, and it is time to prepare my classroom for the festivities surrounding the year of the tiger! My fourth graders love learning about different cultures and traditions. Every year I do my best to introduce, teach, and guide them through different lessons and activities celebrating this important holiday. I have many Asian students in my classroom who celebrate, and they are very proud and excited when we study Asian culture as a class. This year, I am asking for 2 new books on Chinese New Year that I can use for introducing the topic. I am also asking for red envelopes with good luck coins, good luck candy, and fortune scratch cards. To help decorate our room I am asking for 2 sets of banners and lanterns and some red lights to use around our Lunar New Year bulletin board. Lastly, I would like a Chinese New Year bingo game to play with my students.

Celebrating Lunar New Year in our classroom will get my students ready and excited for learning about Asian culture.

It is important for my students to be aware of the holiday's background and why the holiday is celebrated by so many families in our community!
