Caterpillars and Butterflies Invade Kindergarten!

Help me give my students Butterfly Growing Kits so that they may watch the beautiful transformation of caterpillar to butterfly!

My Project

Each year in spring a favorite science unit is the life cycle of the butterfly. However, we no longer receive the materials we need. The caterpillar kits I am requesting will make sure they don’t miss out!

All children should have the privilege of witnessing the metamorphosis of caterpillars as they change and grow, as they become fat and sassy, spin themselves into a chrysalis and then bloom into a beautiful butterfly.

The children will study about their life cycle, their habitat, and their diet. This includes charting the changes, writing about it, predicting the day they emerge, and then planning the Butterflies Are Free celebration which is when we set these beautiful creatures free! Besides the butterfly habitat and larva, I am requesting stickers because you KNOW every child loves a sticker! Science is a fun subject in school. Yet it's beginning to fall by the wayside in the elementary curriculum. I don't want that to happen especially the Life Cycle of Insects unit. There are so many wonderful parts to this project for my kiddos to enjoy and learn from. Please don't let them miss out on this very important event. Help me to help them!

Our school is considered a Title I school. Many of the children live in low-income housing, hotels, and could be in shelters. For some, English is their second language and many have experienced traumatic experiences that most of us can hardly comprehend. Some have special needs and each and every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast and free lunch. My students work hard and are eager to learn new ideas and skills.
