My Students
My students are eager, enthusiastic, hard working and creative. All of them speak a language other than English at home, and are learning English at school. All of them receive free lunch because of their low socio economic status. My goal is to provide my students with rich educational experiences that support them as they build their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills in English. I also create opportunities for engineering, problem solving and hands on science activities which encourage them to use higher level thinking and academic language. Your support for my students shows that you see their potential as contributors to our community.
My Project
My students got a huge dose of reading energy from our celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2, 2018. I realized that I had only two Dr. Seuss titles in my class collection, and no multiple books that allow me to use the books in book clubs. I decided I would write up a request for my wonderful supporters to help me gather a collection of the Dr. Seuss classics. These books seem too "easy" for my second graders, but they allow kids to have fun and be dramatic as they read. One of my lower readers came to me with a big smile on her face and told me, "I can read this book now!" referring to a copy of Green Eggs and Ham. Your help in building this collection is greatly appreciated.
