Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There's an excited buzz in the room. The students are working to solve a math problem in a different way, or to make a scientific discovery. They are in pairs, or groups, and then suddenly there it is - the AHA! moment. Now all they need is a way to share their learning with the whole class.

I want my students to share ideas and learn from each other.

I strive to make a strong learning community within my classroom. Like most students, they are enamored of technology. The opportunity to come to the whiteboard to demonstrate what they have learned is extremely appealing and empowering. I have a relatively large population of English language learners, who are often anxious about participating class. Technology like a document camera helps bridge the language barrier by giving students a visual means of communication, while simultaneously motivating them to express and explain their ideas.

My Project

A document camera would be an incredible resource in our room. Students can use manipulatives to model different ways to solve a math problem. We can project and share books so the whole class can see and read along. Science experiments can be modeled for the entire group. Student writing can be displayed, for modeling, editing and celebrating. One of the best parts of the document camera is its ability to making teaching more spontaneous. Having a document camera allows you to take advantage of those unexpected teachable moments.

Having a document camera would mean no crowding or pushing or craning to see the lesson.

It would mean the Ahas could spread from student to student in all areas of the curriculum.
