Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am teaching at a Title I school that is full of cultural and linguistic diversity. Students in my classroom are eager to learn kinesthetically. They are creative movers and thinkers. They have proactive attitudes and are eager to learn while dancing. My students are empowered to learn kinesthetically as well as understand the history of multicultural dances from around the world. From these experiences we build a dancing community classroom around what we have in common and our shared experiences.

We are a community of creative movers that love to learn kinesthetically and multiculturally.

In dance class, my students create, perform, respond, and connect.  Through these experiences we learn to cooperate, to share, to collaborate, and to speak tactfully about each other's creations. We also learn about the Elements of Dance and Dance History. My students are from all around the world. I teach 500 students throughout the school year ranging from Kindergarten to sixth grade. My students are motivated to learn how to express themselves in a new way through the movement of their bodies. They strive every day to do their best as they dance.

My Project

Multicultural Dance is important for all students to help them understand about a specific culture. Through these learning experiences it allows students to gain respect and knowledge about others and give importance to the traditions and norms of a culture. While learning these dances, students discover the history and stories behind the multicultural dance.

These folkloric skirts will give my students the opportunity to experience dancing with authentic Mexican skirts.

By using the skirts, the students will understand how the Mexican skirts have an impact on the movement vocabulary within these multicultural dances from Mexico.

My students will have the learning opportunity to use these Mexican skirts in class. They will understand how they have to move their bodies to let the skirt dance in class and onstage. These skirts will also be used by my students to culminate their learning experiences with a performance for their family and school community.
