Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It's is well known that students love being rewarded for meeting a goal, doing well on an assignment, or just for excellent behavior. Incentives greatly support students Socio-emotional learning in that it makes school a fun place to learn and encourages them with extrinsic motivation while they develop their intrinsic motivation and skills. While we have encouraged students with a variety of incentives throughout the year, students can get bored with the same choices and prizes.

Having a capsule machine in our classroom would be a new and exciting way to motivate our students!

We would need a capsule machine and the capsules to hold small prizes to incentivize our students. We also need a variety of prizes that we know that students enjoy, like mochi squishy, mini pop-its, pencil toppers, and small erasers that can fit inside the capsules. Other incentives like extra recess, or larger prizes like ring pops can be written on paper slips and placed in the capsules as well. The book "What if Everyone Did That" will be used as a read-aloud to set expectations for behavior and rules for use of the capsule machine.

Although the capsule machine will be set to dispense without coins, the capsule machine can also be used to teach math and financial literacy skills like estimation, budgeting, etc.
