Every student deserves to feel confident, seen, and supported from the very first day of school.
This collaborative art project allows students to express their identities, cultures, and voices through words and imagery.
Each class will create a large canvas that becomes a powerful symbol of belonging and self-expression, honoring who students are and encouraging them to celebrate both their individuality and their shared community.
To help every student feel seen from day one, I will also take a 4x6 photo of each student on the first day of school and display it in the classroom. These photos serve as a daily visual reminder that each student matters and belongs. To make this possible, the project will include printer ink so that every child can be represented in our space from the start.
Displaying student artwork and photos throughout the year reinforces the message that diverse identities are welcomed, valued, and central to our classroom culture. It fosters empathy, connection, and a sense of pride—helping students see one another as individuals and teammates, not stereotypes or strangers.
