My Students

My students are eager to succeed. In fact, they are so eager that most of them are terrified to fail! The fear of failure leads to doubt, distress, distrust, withdrawal, limited experiences, and ultimately failure — a self-fulfilling prophecy. My biggest goal as a third grade teacher is to show my students that failure and making mistakes are the only ways to learn.

It's a wonderful thing in my class to try your hardest, go out on a limb, and fall because not only can you see the way more clearly next time, but so can others!

I want to give my Title 1 students the gift of the safety to fail, the wonder to notice the world, and the curiosity to ask questions in their school lives for as long as I have them under my wing!

My Project

Remote teaching can be difficult when you don't have the tools students are accustomed to using in the classroom. My class has Community Circle every morning. The writing prompts will help up continue this even remotely, which will help with social and emotional wellness. This project would also help me teach difficult concepts like fractions, arrays, and area by providing colorful magnetic tools to show them how it works. Magnetic letters will help my struggling readers see how words are manipulated even when I can't be there to show them on paper or dry erase boards. These tools will make videos I make and Zoom calls more visible. The nice thing about this is that it will all be useful even after remote learning is over.
