Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in our school are culturally diverse. They work hard and are eager to learn. More than half of them come from low-income families. We have many students with special needs as well as many who are immigrants. Together they speak over twenty different languages. In addition, they all have different learning abilities and learning styles. They are energetic and love participating in community events.

We are organizing a camping day for our Pre-K students to educate them on fundamental outdoor first aid skills and instill the importance of caring for others in case of injuries.

Parents will be invited to participate in this event with their children. Students will participate in a full camping role play experience. They will learn outdoor first aid skills, which will prepare them to assist others in need in any situation. We will set up pretend emergency situations and guid them through the process. We will provide them with bandages, adhesive and cotton balls. Each tent will have a different situation where they will have to treat a pretend injury on a stuffed animal that they can bring in or that we will provide. We will encourage students to come up with immaginative stories about pretend injuries. They will take turns acting out the scenarios and practicing the appropriate first aid response such as cleaning a wound or applying an imaginary ice pack. We will guide students through various situations such as pretend bee stings or scraped knees and let them practice the appropriate first aid steps. These tents will be set up in our picturesque school yard, enhancing the overall camping experience.
