My Project

After the pandemic, I am looking for ways to help my students find a safe space to unwind when they are feeling overwhelmed.

I am creating a calming corner in my classroom where my students can find books on breathing exercises, exploring their feelings, and yoga cards.

There will also be tactile objects for the students to squeeze, pull on, or manipulate. The bean bag chairs will provide a comforting place to relax when using these items. The corner will also have 5 minute sand timers to help students with time management when visiting this area in the classroom.

The Calming Corner will also have items that the students may bring back to their desks to use until they are ready to rejoin the class. These items include drawing books, twistable crayons, and building toys. I look forward to helping my students with their social and emotional learning through this special, safe space.
