Calmer Kindergarten Corner, Part 2

My Students

My students walk and log into school every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Some of my students walk to school, some are dropped off in a car, and many ride the bus to school. Each day I get to spend with my students is a day I am able to learn and grow from them as well. I am able to see their determination and resilience for everyday life. What I don't get to see every day is the difficult lives my students lead at home. With a population of over 90% of students who qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch, I can only imagine the hardships my students face in the outside world. Despite these hardships, my students come to school with smiling faces and joyful outlooks on life. I am excited to continue on this crazy, energetic, and at times exhausting but incredibly rewarding journey I call teaching.

My Project

This is part 2 of a multi part project where I am wanting to create a unified and calmer environment for my students. When a Kindergarten classroom is an organized space, it is a calmer space where my students can learn. When the space is a calmer, the students are able to focus their energy on their learning, thus benefiting their mental health greatly. I would like to be able to create this calmer space thru the use of solid color bins to store our library books.

Now more than ever, mental health is a key part in the health and wellness of students.

A unified and calm environment to learn in will greatly benefit that health and wellness factor on my classroom not only for myself, but most importantly my students.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
