Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My K–2 special education students are thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn, but many are still developing the skills needed to regulate emotions, stay focused, and work independently. I love how hard they try each day and how proud they feel when they are given the right tools to succeed.

This project focuses on helping my students feel calm, supported, and ready to learn throughout the school day.

Social-emotional learning books, puzzles, and snap bots will help students build emotional awareness, problem-solving skills, and perseverance through hands-on learning. Weighted lap animals will provide calming sensory input to support focus and self-regulation during lessons and transitions. Pencil grips and clipboards will support fine motor development and independence during writing and tabletop activities. Velcro, a laminator, whiteboard magnets, and printer ink will allow me to create durable, reusable learning materials and visual supports tailored to each student’s needs. Curtains and a curtain rod will help reduce distractions and create a calmer learning environment, while disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer help maintain a clean and healthy classroom. Chips will be offered as a snack to support stamina and help students stay regulated and ready to learn throughout the day. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to access additional SEL and academic resources aligned to my students’ goals.

These materials will help create a classroom where students feel emotionally supported, confident, and capable of learning independently. By strengthening self-regulation, focus, fine motor skills, and engagement, this project will help my students participate more fully in learning and experience success each day. Together, these resources will support meaningful academic growth while fostering a calm, welcoming environment where every child can thrive.
