Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every student deserves to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. For students with disabilities—including those with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, sensory processing differences, and other learning differences—self-regulation is not just a social-emotional skill; it is a prerequisite for academic access.

This project will provide a dedicated Sensory & Wellness Station in our high school special education classroom.

The station will be stocked with a variety of fidget and sensory tools to support focus and self-regulation, alongside healthy, allergy-conscious snacks to address hunger and blood-sugar stability—both of which are clinically linked to emotional regulation and cognitive performance.

Our students are high schoolers (grades 9–12) who receive special education services under IDEA. Many of our students carry multiple diagnoses and face a daily internal battle between their desire to succeed and the neurological or sensory barriers that stand in their way. Some are nonverbal or have limited verbal communication. Others struggle with anxiety, sensory overwhelm, or the physiological effects of going hours without adequate nutrition.

Our classroom is a place where students are seen, valued, and supported. We believe that when a student’s basic sensory and nutritional needs are met, everything else—attendance, engagement, skill-building, and joy—becomes possible.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
