They grab their eye pillows from the center of the room and find their favorite mats, ready to settle into a peaceful practice. At the end of class, they each wear their lavender eye pillows during the final resting pose, fully embracing the quiet, meditative moment.\r\n\r\nThanks to your incredibly generous donation, my students can now experience the full benefits of mindfulness without hesitation. It warms my heart to see that more and more of them feel comfortable closing their eyes and being fully present during our closing meditation, something they previously may have shied away from. They no longer feel self-conscious; instead, they feel supported, thanks to you.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the lavender eye pillows and wipes, they were genuinely in awe that these were all donations. I assigned each student their own eye pillow to keep, and when I gave them out at the end of the semester, their excitement was contagious. For sanitary reasons I cannot provide the same eye pillows to my next cohort. My students loved that they were able to keep their eye pillows after the class was over. It was like an early Christmas in our classroom!\r\nWe're currently working on a \"My Community\" project. Here's what's coming up:\r\n\r\n1. Students will create simple maps of their neighborhoods\r\n2. They'll label places in English (park, store, school, etc.)\r\n3. We'll practice giving directions using phrases like \"turn left\" and \"go straight\"\r\n\r\n4. Other good news is that they seem to be lasting a long time and won't likely deteriorate for many years.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboard was an excellent addition as well, since now we have enough whiteboards to be able to get all the students comfortably around the room without having to use my main board at the front of the class. We move the desks for a variety of reasons. For instance, desks go into small groups for discussions, one large circle for Socratic seminars or debates or sharing out time in Advisory, or out of the way completely for games. \r\n\r\nThe bluetooth speaker is in almost daily use, allowing me to set the right environment for my students, whether it be for chill lo-fi study time or an energetic upbeat work period. Just this December, that speaker was put to excellent use creating holiday vibes for our gingerbread making contest! \r\n\r\nThe notecards have been perfect for both traditional flashcard-making and for class games that help build our community spirit and make school more fun for students.
