Last year I worked tirelessly to obtain a wealth of sports-related books for a group of low-level readers in the 7th and 8th grade. Sports books were the only books that seemed to motivate these students to read! Once I got those books in their hands my students read more than 30 books each! However, this year, in my severely under-resourced middle school in Brooklyn, NY, my students complain, once again about not having the books that interest them. I teach 7th and 8th grade literacy to low-level readers which means that I must find high interest literature to inspire them into a life of reading. Fortunately, I have found the books that they like! I need your help in acquiring books about teen issues and animals: two topics that were requested by my students. If I can, in fact, put these books in their hands then they will become readers. What better a gift can you give a child then the lifelong gift of reading? Help me to inspire my students to lead literate lives. Help me to motivate reading in my classroom and at home. Help me, help them. Thank you.
