I teach 12 to 15 year old students with a variety of academic abilities, life challenges, and economic statuses. While the students in my class face a variety of challenges in life they are vibrant curious individuals.
Students in my engineering, design & modeling, and architecture classes are learning how they can have an impact on the world, how to apply the design process, and about career opportunities, as well as, applying academic skills to a variety of hands-on projects.
My students are very interested in creating a better life for themselves and having a positive impact on their community.
My Project
I teach students with a variety of economic levels and learning levels about architecture, engineering, trade careers, and what goes into building a community. We go beyond print and written work to actual designs, experiments, and models. When students are in the classroom we do hands-on projects to help them develop real world skills in architecture, design, and engineering. Covid 19 has required a rethinking of projects and supplies. This year our school district is doing a model where students have the option to be in person 2 days a week then at home 3 days a week or fully remote learning.
It is vital that students be able to continue doing hands-on projects whether they are at home or in the classroom.
Having enough supplies for students to use at home, as well as, in the classroom keeps learning engaging for students and helps them to understand the concepts.
My project will allow me to create individual at home supply kits for each of my students so they do not have to worry about supplies and can learn whether they are at home or in the classroom. This will also allow my students to focus when they are in person with me without worrying about germs.
