Students were thrilled to see the natural accents leaf carpet, floor pillows, and charging station and made an immediate beeline for the new space. With over 90 students entering my classroom most days, the creation of an environment that balances academic rigo with emotional well-being is vital. Your choose to contribute to this space has provided our students with a dedicated sanctuary where they can set aside daily pressures, engage in quiet reading, take time to catch their breath, and reflect.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this space on our learning environment was immediate and continues to be profound. Middle school can often present students with a complex mix of academic expectations, social dynamics, and personal growth. This can sometimes be further intensified by the humbling process of learing a second language. The \"Rincón de Calma\" serves as an essential tool for helping students manage these challenges, especially those who experiece test anxiety. Multiple students have already used the area to recenter themselves prior to an exam or to take a brief pause during testing. When the \"Rincón de Calma\" is not being used as a recentering area it has been used as a reward. It brings me joy to watch students work hard to complete their tasks so that they may earn the privilege of free time in the area. \r\n\r\nYour partnership has and continues to directly strengthens the academic success and emotional resilience of our student here at McMillan Magnet Middle School. Currently, Spanish 1 students are applying their language skills to explore aspects of personal identity, preferences, and hobbies in preparation for a videoblog project where they will introduce themselves in Spanish. At the same time, our Spanish for Spanish Speakers classes are composing their first formal essay on the cultural identity of Spanish speaking peoples in the Caribbean. \r\n\r\nHaving this designated space to reset enables our students to approach these ambitious academic goals with focus and confidence. Expo markers and flip chart markers were used for daily instruction, modeling, and creating colorful visual aids and anchor charts. Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencils, and scissors were essential classroom supplies that students used throughout the school year. The Post-it note easel pad allowed students to collaborate, share ideas, and participate in interactive learning activities, while laminating pouches helped preserve important classroom resources and student materials for repeated use. Incentives for good behavior provided positive reinforcement and encouraged students to make responsible choices, stay engaged, and contribute to a positive classroom community.
