Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom serves a diverse group of young learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with special needs who require additional support to develop foundational literacy skills. This project will provide hands-on phonics games, interactive alphabet materials, and multisensory learning tools that will help students build confidence and competence in early reading.

Many of my students are still developing basic letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and early decoding skills.

For ELL students, learning the English alphabet and its sounds can be especially challenging. Students with special needs often benefit from repetition, visual supports, and tactile experiences.

Without engaging, differentiated materials, students can fall behind in literacy development—impacting their confidence and long-term academic success. Early intervention is critical, and providing the right tools now can make a lasting difference.

To support these goals, I am requesting:

-Phonics-based board games and literacy centers

-Magnetic and tactile alphabet letters

-Alphabet puzzles and matching activities

-Visual phonics cards with pictures and sounds

These materials will allow students to learn through play, repetition, and hands-on exploration—key strategies for both ELLs and students with learning differences.

Students will use these materials daily during literacy centers, small group instruction, and intervention time. Activities will be differentiated to meet varying skill levels, allowing each child to progress at their own pace. The games and tools will encourage collaboration, independent practice, and joyful learning.

With these resources, students will:

-Improve phonemic awareness and decoding skills

-Increase familiarity with the English alphabet and sounds

-Demonstrate greater engagement and participation

-Build confidence as emerging readers
