My Project

My PreK–2nd grade music students are full of energy, curiosity, and have a natural love for music. They learn best when they can move, explore, and actively create sound together. To support this, I am requesting a class set of Lummi sticks and a bass metallophone to bring hands-on music-making into our classroom. While my school provides a standard annual classroom supply budget, this amount must cover all materials, regardless of subject area. For a music classroom, where instruments are central to instruction, this funding does not go far.

The bass metallophone alone costs nearly three times my yearly allocation, making it unattainable through traditional school funding.

Lummi sticks are a powerful tool for teaching rhythm, coordination, and teamwork. With a full class set, every student can participate at the same time—practicing steady beat, echo patterns, and group routines that build both musical skills and classroom community. These activities also strengthen focus, listening skills, and cooperation in a playful and engaging way.

The addition of a bass metallophone will expand our ability to explore melody and harmony. This instrument will provide a rich, grounding sound that helps students understand pitch relationships and ensemble playing. It will be especially valuable for modeling musical concepts and supporting simple compositions and group performances. The stand will make it portable and accessible for young musicians.
