During partner discussions, students can easily turn to a nearby classmate to share their thinking before we come back together as a class.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the rug, they were excited and could not wait to sit on it. They quickly understood that it was a special place where we would learn, listen, share ideas, and build our classroom community. It has made our meeting area feel more welcoming and has helped students remain focused and involved during lessons.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using the rug for interactive reading, hands-on math practice, partner conversations, and lessons about kindness and cooperation. It will remain an important part of our classroom for future groups of first graders as well.
