Building Memories through Inclusiveness in the School Community

Help me give my students with autism the opportunity to create memories with their general education community at school. Creating decorative stepping stones together to create a memory.

My Project

My students are children with autism, and in my chapter, we include kindergarten through 5th grade. They just love to have friends who are like brothers and sisters to them. Their general education buddies are such patient, caring, and kind souls that just make my heart full to watch them interact.

In collaboration with Best Buddies, as the chapter leader for my school, I strive to bring awareness to inclusive activities and collaboration between our students with disabilities and their general education "Buddies".

We hold monthly activities where our disabled students are partnering with their school community to do crafts or play games.

The school community has so much kindness to be shared, and the kids just love to demonstrate this. These stepping stones would be one of the big activities for a couple of months as there are multiple parts to complete.

As a community service within the school, the general education students will lead the craft and teach their disabled peers how to complete it, and create friendships.

It would be great to be able to do something as costly as this which we could not normally afford to do.

Teaching kindness and inclusivity in elementary school, will continue to carry over with these students into their middle school and high school life. Helping others and showing kindness is a priceless community service.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
