Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 7th and 8th grade MYP math students are curious, hardworking learners at a low income school where many students do not consistently have access to basic classroom supplies. With over 120 students, it is important that every student has the materials needed to fully participate, stay organized, and feel prepared to learn each day.

This project will provide essential resources such as notebooks, pencils, highlighters, folders, graph paper, and classroom materials that promote strong note taking, organization, and math literacy.

These tools will help students build confidence while improving their ability to explain mathematical thinking and engage in collaborative learning activities.

The project will also support hands on data collection and inquiry activities centered around health and wellness. Students will collect and analyze real world data such as heart rate, daily steps, oxygen levels, sleep habits, and activity levels. Through these investigations, students will learn how to create graphs, calculate measures of center and variability, identify trends, and make evidence based conclusions using authentic data.

By ensuring students have access to both basic classroom supplies and meaningful data collection tools, this project will create a more equitable learning environment where students can focus on inquiry, conceptual understanding, and real world applications of mathematics. Your support will help students develop critical thinking skills while making math engaging, relevant, and accessible to all learners.
