My Project

I am the 4th grade math teacher. My PTO has raised the funds to have white boards put up so that students can be on their feet working in small groups and then presenting their work. The tools I am requesting here will super charge the use of those white boards. We are requesting markers, cards and more.

Citizens need to be able to both listen critically and express themselves using facts and reasoning.

Collaboration in small groups all year will help my students develop the math skills they need now and the communication skills they will need their whole lives long. In the best math classrooms, students are expected to reason, construct viable arguments, communicate, create models, and critique the reasoning of others. In a future we can't yet imagine, they will most certainly need to do those same things.

North Carolina's Portrait of a Graduate has seven traits: adaptability, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, empathy, learner's mindset, and personal responsibility. Students will strengthen these same traits every day in math by having to break down problems, agree on a plan, execute it with precision, and then present it to other teams.
