Building Leaders

My students need a projector and two sets of speakers so we can access technology and participate more effectively in video assignments, while striving to help our school and district shine.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Today's teens have pressures unlike any we have ever faced. Poverty isn't just about money! Our students' journey is beyond what most of us could ever fathom. Many face life feeling abandoned, struggling with self-esteem issues, awkward in their own skin, searching for value and identity. Is there hope?

They are my leadership students!

Kids! A diverse boutique of faces! They are precious, amazing, young people with immense potential. They just don't know that yet! With scars to the heart that are hard to repair, hope is the only answer! Though life has most often offered pain, trials, and challenges, these teen leaders have a tender place in their hearts to be the change they want to see. On the news tonight, it stated that our district has 2700 homeless children. I know in my own classes I have 6. Most of us can not relate to a life on the streets or living in shelters, yet they are expected to be at school on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to learn. We have approximately 630 students. We have a higher suspension rate this year then we have had for years. Kids are lashing out with bullying that is equally becoming a very global problem. I have 67 kiddos who have signed up and eagerly serve as our schools WEB Leaders. We have a huge job ahead of us to try to change our campus's climate.

My Project

What is around the corner for all of us depends on what we do with today! Receiving the projector, portable speakers and mountable speakers will allow leadership to progress and be a part of the solution. We would be truly honored to have your support! When strangers give from the heart, the effect is often contagious, sure to overflow onto our campus! These resources will open our doors, eyes, and minds to the direction the world is headed. Our first assignment is a district-wide competition making a video that teaches the Student Code of Honor, which states, "I AM A STUDENT! I will represent myself, my school, and my community with honor. I will abide by the rules. I will be compassionate toward others. I will think before I act or speak. I will respect others as I would want to be respected." My hope is my leadership students will start living out this code and role model the character traits that are taught. The projector lets us view our production, YouTube clips, and be change agents.

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." -Anatole France The projector and speakers will engage students.

We must use technology to our advantage or risk losing the future generation. I hope to access YouTube, video clips and other vignettes to help my leaders be all they can be. At our Leadership Conference, one child put what she saw into action. Upon arriving on campus, she sat down and ate lunch with a "loner" showing compassion.
