Building Leaders of Tomorrow

Help me give my students the ability to finish a project that displays teamwork, leadership, & their artistic side. We are building different things out of popsicles using their creativity.

My Project

In my classroom, I teach middle school students that leadership is more than having a title it’s about how you think, how you treat others, how you solve problems, and how you respond when things don’t go according to plan.

My Leadership class is designed to get students out of their seats & actively practicing leadership rather than simply reading about it.

Throughout the year, students work together, communicate, debate, solve problems, make decisions, and take on leadership roles. We study different leadership styles, including autocratic, democratic, servant, and transformational leadership, and then put those concepts into action through hands-on activities.

One of our most exciting projects is our Leadership Building Challenge. Students will be divided into teams, each with a student leader. Their leader will be assigned a particular leadership style, and the team will be challenged to work together to build a structure using simple materials such as Popsicle sticks, glue sticks, and other craft supplies. The goal isn’t simply to build the strongest or biggest structure. Students must learn how to communicate, delegate, listen, problem-solve, manage conflict, and motivate their teammates.

For many of my students, these activities will be more than just another classroom assignment. They will give them opportunities to discover strengths they didn’t know they had.

A student who may not normally speak up in class might become the voice of their team. A student who struggles academically might discover that they are an excellent problem-solver. Another student might learn that being a leader doesn’t always mean being the loudest person in the room, it can mean listening, encourage others, and helping the team succeed.

My goal is to build a classroom where students don’t just learn what leadership means, they experience it.
