My students are energetic and ready to learn. I teach at a high poverty title one school. I think it is important to give them a lot of differentiated experiences based on their needs as learners.
Many of my students are ESOL learners.
They are learning to read, write and speak English.
As English language learners it is important for my students not only to read but to have conversations with others about the books they are reading. I use book clubs to help my students gain a deeper understanding of the book they are reading.
My Project
The materials I have requested will allow my students to be come better readers, writers and communicator. Having high interest, leveled books will allow my students to read and talk about books with their peers. Having multiple copies of books in my classroom will allow my students to choose the books that their club wants to read. Some of my students live in homes were English is very rarely spoken. Book clubs give them a chance to have deep, meaningful conversation with someone other than the teacher. The books that I chose are books that my students have really enjoyed and I know my class this year will love to have the chance to read.
