Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My sixth graders amaze me everyday. Besides taking care of themselves, some are responsible to care for their little siblings, which require them to put their own needs aside to care for their siblings first. At a young age, my sixth graders are having to learn skills that far surpass their maturity, and they are successful.

They are hard-working and dedicated despite the adversities they face everyday.

I work in California at a Title I school where 97% of the students receive free breakfast, lunch, and backpacks full of food to take home over the weekend. Because of the low socioeconomic neighborhood my school is located in, our school receives a grant from the food bank which provides them with a snack everyday at recess. Several students from each grade level even receive free shoes and a shopping spree at Kohls.

My Project

Creating healthy habits begin with creating lessons designed to help students learn how to lead a balanced lifestyle. It is important in this day and age for students to exercise daily, whether it is fitness training or sport specific skills. The physical education equipment I chose will teach the students the importance of exercise that will lead them into specific sport skills training.

Along with exercising, it is important for the students to know healthy snack eating habits.

The snacks chosen in this project were picked to teach my students that there is a wide variety of heathy snack options besides chips and candy.

The last portion of building healthy students is learning how to be safe during these times. Masks, sanitizer, and soaps are an important part of our daily lives. Providing my students with these items will help to keep them safe and healthy.
