This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a K-5 Title 1 school with 100% of our students on free breakfast and lunch. In our low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. They face dilemmas daily that include hunger, homelessness, anxiety, depression, grief, deployed parents, and so much more. Despite the many challenges they face, I look forward to providing them with creative and meaningful learning experiences in a safe environment. My students are creative, energetic and are eager to learn. As the School Counselor, I work with students primarily on character education, social/emotional development, college and career readiness, and financial literacy.
My Project
It is important for children in early childhood to develop good social and emotional skills, these skills will influence their mental health in a positive manner. These books and games will help me with improving their emotional skills, which will allow students to express, recognize, and understand their feelings, as well as that of others. Children who can understand and manage their feelings are more likely to succeed and develop higher self-esteem.
EMOTIONS MATTER!
I have a goal to help all the children in my school to be able to express, understand, and discuss their feelings and the feelings of others. I also want to work with them on managing their feelings effectively and in positive ways. This will create more empathetic children. These materials will help me to teach feelings better to younger children in a fun and engaging way.
