My Project

Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in first grade, and every child deserves books that help them experience success. My students are learning to read through explicit, systematic phonics instruction using the Science of Reading. During our small-group lessons, students develop the foundational skills they need to become successful readers. They then apply those skills during independent and partner reading.

The decodable books in this project will provide students with reading materials that match the phonics skills they are currently learning.

Because the books are carefully aligned to specific phonics patterns, students can practice decoding words with confidence instead of relying on pictures or guessing. This repeated practice helps build accuracy, fluency, and comprehension while fostering independence and a love of reading.

These books will become an essential part of our literacy centers, allowing students to practice reading at their own instructional level, work collaboratively with classmates, and revisit skills taught during small-group instruction. Having access to engaging, skill-based books will ensure every student has meaningful opportunities to strengthen their reading abilities every day.

Your generosity will provide my first graders with the tools they need to become confident, capable readers. Together, we can create a classroom where every child experiences the joy and success that comes from reading a book independently.
