Building Artistic Confidence One Sketchbook at a Time

Help me give my students sketchbooks, drawing pencils, Micron pens, and white charcoal pencils to build artistic skills through daily practice, experimentation, and creative expression.

Ms. Higgins Westover High School
Fayetteville, NC Grades 9-12

My Project

As a Title I, low-income school, many of my students are unable to provide their own art materials. However, they come to class every day with enthusiasm, imagination, and a willingness to learn. They deserve access to quality supplies that allow them to develop their skills and create artwork they are proud of.

These sketchbooks and drawing materials will provide students with the tools they need to strengthen their artistic abilities at every level.

Beginning students will use drawing pencils to build foundational skills in line, value, shading, and observation. More advanced students will use Micron pens to develop precision, detail, and confidence in creating finished artwork. White charcoal pencils will allow students to explore drawing glass on black paper, learning how artists use highlights, reflections, contrast, and value to create the illusion of transparency.

Having the right materials allows students to focus on learning and creating rather than worrying about whether they have the tools they need to participate. Students use their sketchbooks for daily drawing practice, building confidence, improving observation skills, and developing their own artistic style over time. These supplies encourage consistent practice, creative problem-solving, and the freedom to experiment as students grow into more confident artists.

My students are special because they bring resilience, creativity, and a genuine excitement for learning into the art room every day. With your support, they will have the opportunity to explore new techniques, challenge themselves, and discover what they are capable of creating. Your donation will directly help these young artists grow with confidence and pride.
